Govind Wildlife National Park & Sanctuary

Overview

Govind Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Uttarkashi district. The sanctuary covers the total area of 953 sq km. Govind Wildlife Sanctuary support wide variety of fauna & flora as region has varying altitude of 1300 to 6323 meters above the sea level. It was established primarily for the protection of the endangered Snow leopards, Snow leopards is prominent in upper altitude region. Other wild species of animal as Himalayan black bears, tahr, serow, monal, snow leopard, brown bears trogopan, chir, bharal, musk deer, koklas kaleej pheasants and chukor are also found. The Park offers imposing view of mountains like Swarg Rohini, Black Peak and Bandarpunch.


Activities can be enjoyed:

  • Trekking: The entire area of Govind Wildlife National Park & Sanctuary is marked by popular trek routes as Har Ki doon & high altitude Ruinsara Tal.
  • Bird watching & wild animal sighting: The region sustains more than 100 Bird species & also home to some of endangered species such as the golden eagle, the steppe eagle and the black eagle, the bearded vulture, the Himalayan snowcock, the Himalayan monal pheasant, the cheer pheasant and the western tragopan. Govind Wildlife National Park & Sanctuary also has variety of wide Himalayan species as Asian black bear, the brown bear, the common leopard, the musk deer, the bharal, the Himalayan Tahr & few smaller animals as Hodgson's giant flying squirrel, wild boar, masked palm civet and Sikkim mountain vole,  Indian crested porcupine, European otter, goral, civet, hedgehog, Himalayan field rat.
