As the winter heads, drench the high altitude places including Chardham shrine with fresh snow layers then the gods from the divine Chardhams brought down to their winter abode where they reside for six months. Goddess Yamuna is worshipped at the Yamuna Mandir (Kharsali village), The Ganges at Ganga Mandir (Mukhba village), Badrinath Ji at temple Onkareshwar Temple (Ukhimath) and Kedarnath ji at the Narshing Temple (Joshimath). All religious ceremonies & evening Aarti is offered to deities in their respective places every day. These scared temples are kept open for devotes Darshan throughout 06 months.
Kharsali (The Winter abode of Maa Yamuna): Kharsali is located at Uttarkashi district, at distance of 01 Kms from Jankichatti. The place is winter seat for 06 month for Goddess Yamuna. Yamunotri shrine remains closed during winter due to heavy snowfall so for that time the idol of goddess Yamuna is shifted to Kharsali at Shani Dev Temple. The place has famous ancient Lord Shiva temple in the Someshwar form. The place has not only religious importance but also imbibed in scenic beauty with undulating meadows, Oaks & conifer forest with sparkling waterfalls & thermal springs. The idol of Goddess Yamuna is kept at the Shani Dev Temple. It is oldest temple & has distinct architecture, it is made up of wood, stone and mortar made of Urad Dal (pulse). The temple has withstood many natural calamities.
Mukhba (The Winter abode of Goddess Ganga): The village located 01 Kms from Harsil. The place is winter abode of Ganga ji. This is a small village on the banks of the Bhagirathi. The Mukhimath Temple in Mukhba is the winter abode of Goddess Ganga. The Temple is 20ft high and made up of white granite. The temple remains open for devotees throughout winter.
Ukhimath (The Winter abode of Lord Kedarnath): Ukhimath is located at Rudraprayag District at a distance of 41 km from district headquarter. It is located at an elevation of 1311 meters. At Omkareshwar Temple, the image of Lord Kedarnath is shifted for 06 months & all the religious ceremonies are performed at this temple.
Joshimath (The Winter Home of Lord Badrinath: Joshimath is located at Chamoli District. The Narsingh Temple at Joshimath is the winter seat of Lord Badrivishal. It has the idol of Lord Vishnu in the Narsingh avatar which is believed to have been established by Shakaracharya.
Winter Chardham Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrive Haridwar
Arrive Haridwar & check in at the hotel. Later proceed for visit of the Pareshwar Mahadev Temple, Daksha Mahadev Temple, Bharat Mata Temple & Mansa Devi also (if time permits). Later evening visit Har-ki-Pauri, one of the sacred ghat & witness the Ganga Aarti Ceremony of the Holy River Ganges. Overnight at the hotel, Haridwar.
Day 2:
Haridwar – Barkot – Jankichatti (240 Kms/08 hrs approx)
After breakfast drive to Jankichatti. On arrival check in at the hotel for overnight stay, Jankichatti.
Day 3:
Jankichatti – Kharsali – Uttarkashi (130 Kms/05 Kms approx)
After breakfast drive to Kharsali for Darshan of Goddess Yamuna. Later drive to Uttarkashi. At evening visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Overnight at the hotel, Uttarkashi.
Day 4:
Uttarkashi –Dharali (Drive 95 Kms/03 hrs approx) & Dharali – Mukhba (Trek -01 Kms) & Dharali – Uttarkashi (Drive 95 Kms approx)
After breakfast drive to Dharali followed by trek for a kilometer to Mukhba. Mukhba is winter seat of Goddess Ganges. After Darshan drive back to Uttarkashi for overnight stay.
Day 5:
Uttarkashi- Guptakashi (220 Kms/07 Hrs)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel & later start drive to Guptkashi, on arrival check in at the hotel. Guptkashi is famous for the Vishwanath Temple - dedicated to god Shiva, later evening proceed for Darshan of Vishwanath Temple & Ardhnareswar Temple. Overnight stay at hotel, Guptkashi
Day 6:
Guptkashi – Ukimath – Chopta – Joshimath (230 Kms/08 hrs approx)
After breakfast drive to Ukhimath. The Omkareshwar temple at Ukimath is the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath. On arrival, render obeisance to Lord Shiva. Later continue drive to Joshimath via Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag. Late evening you will reach Joshimath, check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel, Joshimath.
Day 7:
Joshimath – Rudraprayag (160 Kms/05 hrs)
After breakfast proceed for visit of Narsingh temple at Joshimath, the winter home of Lord Badrinath. Later visit Yog Dhyan Badri temple at Pandukeshwar and Vishnuprayag. After visit drive to Rudraprayag, on arrival check in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 08:
Rudraparayag – Rishikesh (150 Kms/05 hrs approx)
After breakfast drive to Rishikesh, on arrival check in at the hotel. Later proceed for visit of Shivananda Ashram, Ram Jhula, Lakshman Jhula, Swarg Ashram, Geeta Ashram & witness The Ganga Aarti at Ghat. Overnight at the hotel, Rishikesh.
Day 09:
Rishikesh Departure
After breakfast proceed for onward destination.
