About

This is a private 7-day Telangana Karnataka tour package. You start among the forts and palaces of Hyderabad, see the giant dome of Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur, explore the 6th-century cave temples of Badami and UNESCO-listed Pattadakal, and finish in the boulder-strewn ruins of Hampi. Every site is open to visitors of all faiths, and the trip costs from about INR 112,518 per person.

This trip tells one of India's great stories. For two centuries, the sultans of the Deccan plateau and the Hindu kings of Vijayanagara competed for power. Then, in 1565, the sultans joined forces and defeated Vijayanagara at the Battle of Talikota, not far from Bijapur. The magnificent capital at Hampi was sacked and never recovered.

On this route you visit the capitals of the rival sultans first: Hyderabad, Kalaburagi and Bijapur. Then you step back in time to the Chalukya cave temples of Badami, where the Deccan's temple building began, and finish among the ruins of Hampi, the great city the sultans destroyed. With a guide at every stop to connect the dots, the history comes alive.

The Places You Will Explore

Hyderabad: Qutb Shahi forts and the Nizams' palace

Founded in 1591, Hyderabad was the capital of the Qutb Shahi kings and later the Nizams. You start at Golconda Fort, whose kings held the region until 1687 and whose diamond market was once famous worldwide. A clap under the entrance dome can be heard at the top of the hill, an ingenious early warning system. Nearby, the domed Qutb Shahi Tombs stand in a garden. You also visit Chowmahalla Palace, seat of the Nizams who ruled until 1948, and Charminar with the bangle and pearl shops of the Laad Bazaar.

Kalaburagi: the first Bahmani capital

On the long road west, you stop at Kalaburagi (once called Gulbarga), capital of the Bahmani sultans from 1347. Its fort holds a 14th-century Jama Masjid whose courtyard is roofed over with small domes, unusual in Indian mosques. The Haft Gumbaz royal tombs stand on the edge of the city. When the Bahmani kingdom broke up, one of its successors was the Adil Shahi sultanate of Bijapur, your next stop.

Vijayapura (Bijapur): the great dome

Gol Gumbaz, the tomb of Sultan Mohammed Adil Shah, was finished in 1656. Its dome spans about 38 metres, among the largest in the world. Climb to the gallery around its base, and a whisper on one side can be heard clearly on the other; a single clap echoes several times. The nearby Ibrahim Rauza, built around 1627, is quieter and more delicate, with fine carved stone and slender minarets.

Badami, Pattadakal and Aihole: where temple building began

Badami was the capital of the early Chalukya kings from the 6th century. Four cave temples, three Hindu and one Jain, are cut into its red sandstone cliffs above Agastya Lake. Look for Shiva dancing with 18 arms and Vishnu resting on a serpent. The next morning, you visit Pattadakal, the Chalukya coronation site, where temples in northern and southern styles stand side by side, and Aihole, a village of more than a hundred small temples where builders tried out early designs.

Hampi: the city the sultans destroyed

From around 1336, Hampi was the capital of the Vijayanagara empire. In the early 1500s it was one of the largest cities in the world, said to have had over half a million people. After the defeat at Talikota in 1565, it was sacked over several months. Today its ruins spread across a landscape of giant boulders. You see the Vittala temple with its famous stone chariot and musical pillars, the still-active Virupaksha temple, the Royal Enclosure with the Lotus Mahal and elephant stables, and end with sunset from Hemakuta hill.

Beneath the entrance dome, clap your hands and listen as the sound carries towards the top of the hill, a remarkable acoustic feature once used as an early-warning system. Climb the steps to the upper palace to enjoy panoramic views of the city.

A short drive away, explore the Qutb Shahi Tombs, set within a peaceful garden. The domed tombs of the kings, built with grey granite and plaster, reflect the architectural style of the dynasty before it moved its capital to the plains.

After lunch, visit Chowmahalla Palace, the former seat of the Asaf Jahi Nizams, who ruled Hyderabad from 1724 until 1948. Explore its elegant courtyards, fountains and grand Durbar Hall, which showcase the royal heritage of a later era.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) & People Also Ask — Deccan Dynasty Circuit: Hyderabad, Bijapur, Badami & Hampi

We help you prepare for your trip and ensure an effortless and enjoyable travel experience.

How many days do you need for a Telangana Karnataka tour?

Seven days is enough to cover Hyderabad, Vijayapura, Badami and Hampi at a steady pace. This plan includes one very long drive of about 8 hours, two nights in Hyderabad and two in Hampi. With two more days, add a night at Bidar or Hubballi.

What is a Deccan dynasty circuit?

It is a route through the main royal cities of the Deccan plateau. You see the Qutb Shahi and Nizam capital at Hyderabad, the Bahmani and Adil Shahi cities at Kalaburagi and Vijayapura, the early Chalukya temples at Badami, and the Vijayanagara capital at Hampi. A guide links the dynasties and their battles.

Is this a good Hyderabad Hampi combined trip for foreigners?

Yes, if you enjoy forts, tombs and ruins. The route is private, with a guide at each place, and all the sites are open to visitors of every faith. The drives are long on Days 3 and 5, and the rest are short.

How long is the drive from Hyderabad to Vijayapura?

The drive from Hyderabad to Vijayapura is about 380 km and takes about 7.5 to 8.5 hours with a stop at Kalaburagi. We leave by 7:30 am. Road maps often show about 5 to 6 hours, but a stop at Kalaburagi and slow stretches make the day longer.

Why do you stop at Kalaburagi?

Kalaburagi lies about halfway between Hyderabad and Vijayapura, and was the first Bahmani capital. The stop breaks a long drive, and the fort, mosque and tombs link the Hyderabad and Vijayapura sultanates in the story.

What is the best time to visit Hyderabad, Bijapur and Hampi?

November to February is the best time. Days are dry and the mornings are cool. March is warm, April and May are very hot, and the monsoon from June to September turns the land green but brings some rain.

Is Hampi worth two nights?

Yes. Hampi spreads over about 25 square kilometres, and a full day lets you see the Vittala temple, the bazaar, the Virupaksha temple and the royal enclosure without hurrying. The first evening, after the drive from Badami, is spent resting.

Which airports do we use?

You fly into Hyderabad (HYD) and out of Hubballi (HBX), about 150 km and 3 hours from Hampi. Choose a flight that leaves after about 3 pm. Jindal Vijayanagar airport near Hampi has about one flight a day to a few cities, so we confirm the schedule before you book.

How much does a 7-day Hyderabad Hampi tour cost?

This 7-day trip costs about Rs.225,036 to Rs.243,039 per couple in the Premium room tier, about Rs.276,696 to Rs.298,832 for Luxury, and about Rs.372,456 to Rs.402,252 for Ultra-Luxury. Prices include the four hotels, vehicle, guides, entries and GST. International flights are not included.

Do we need a visa for India?

Yes. Most nationalities can apply for an Indian e-Visa online before travel. Check which airports accept e-Visa arrivals for your nationality, and apply at least a week ahead on the official e-Visa site.

Can we add Bidar, Mysuru or Lepakshi?

Yes. Bidar has a Bahmani fort and tombs and fits near Kalaburagi. Lepakshi, with its Vijayanagara temple, lies on the way to Bengaluru. Mysuru fits after Hubballi if you fly to Bengaluru. Tell us your dates and we will price the extra nights.
