About

This Andhra Pradesh Telangana tour package can take in 7 days follows the great dynasties of the Deccan plateau. You start in Hyderabad with its forts, palaces and famous biryani, see the UNESCO-listed Ramappa temple and the Kakatiya capital of Warangal, visit 5th-century caves on the Krishna river at Vijayawada, and finish among the temple hills of Tirupati. It costs from about INR 87,318 per person (twin sharing).

It is a twin Deccan heritage trip for foreigners who want history on a human scale: forts, tombs, carved temples and working bazaars. Hyderabad has a walled fort with a famous acoustic trick, a 16th-century gateway and a palace that still holds court dinners. Warangal has the Ramappa temple, which UNESCO listed in 2021, and a fort with a gateway that has become the emblem of Telangana. Vijayawada has rock-cut caves from the 5th century. Tirupati is the base for one of the busiest pilgrimage hills in the world.

A Hyderabad Tirupati combined package works because the two cities sit at opposite ends of a long, flat road across the Deccan, and each stop in between tells a part of the story. The route is private and tailor-made. Hotels, room types and the number of nights can be changed. Day 5 is the longest drive of the tour.

Who This Deccan Heritage Tour Is For

  • History and architecture fans curious about forts, royal tombs and medieval temple carving

  • Repeat visitors to India who have seen Rajasthan or Kerala and want somewhere less visited

  • Food lovers: Hyderabadi biryani, haleem, kebabs, Irani chai and fiery Andhra meals are highlights in their own right

  • Travellers short on time who want a full, varied week with one city start and an easy airport finish

  • Photographers, for Golconda at sunset, Charminar's bazaars and Ramappa's carvings in afternoon light

It is less suited to travellers who want luxury at every stop. One night in Warangal is in a simple hotel, because the town has no luxury option, and we tell you this up front.

Note: Warangal has no luxury hotel. We use the best available hotel in Hanamkonda for one night, and the same room standard applies in every tier. It is clean and comfortable, but it is simpler than the other stays. Room names are confirmed with each hotel when dates are fixed. If a category is full, we offer the nearest one at the same hotel first. Another hotel is used only if you agree. An optional dinner at Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad can be added, and is priced separately.

The Places You Will Explore

Hyderabad: city of pearls, forts and biryani

Founded in 1591 and ruled by the Nizams until 1948, Hyderabad blends Telugu, Urdu and Persian culture. You begin in the old city at Charminar, then wander the Laad Bazaar, still famous for glass bangles, silver and pearls. At Chowmahalla Palace you see how the Nizams lived and held court. In the afternoon you visit the Qutb Shahi Tombs and climb Golconda Fort, built on a granite hill so cleverly that a clap at the gate carries to the summit. If you want a truly royal evening, we can book dinner at the Taj Falaknuma Palace.

Warangal and Ramappa: the Kakatiya masterpiece

Warangal was the capital of the Kakatiya kings. You see the Thousand Pillar temple, built around 1163 CE, with its polished black Nandi bull, and the four stone arches of Warangal Fort. The real treasure lies about 70 km away at Palampet: the Ramappa temple, built in 1213 CE and named after its sculptor. Its dancers and musicians are carved in hard black dolerite and still hold their polish after eight centuries. The tower is said to use lightweight bricks, and the foundation sits on a bed of sand to absorb earthquakes. We time the visit for the afternoon, when low light brings the carvings to life.

Vijayawada: river, caves and a hilltop goddess

Vijayawada is a lively city on the Krishna river. Just outside town, the Undavalli caves were cut into a sandstone hill around 1,600 years ago, with a reclining Vishnu carved from a single block of stone. In the evening, you visit the Kanaka Durga temple on Indrakeeladri hill, looking down on the river and the Prakasam Barrage.

Tirupati: fort, temples and the Tirumala hills

Tirupati sits at the foot of the Tirumala hills, home to the Venkateswara temple, one of the most visited pilgrimage sites on earth. Your day here includes Chandragiri Fort, a Vijayanagara stronghold with a small palace museum, and the temple at Sri Kalahasti, where Shiva is worshipped as the element of wind. In the afternoon you drive up the winding ghat road through forest into the cooler Tirumala hills.

Note for the web team: link "see the full day-by-day plan" here to the itinerary section or PDF.

Visiting Tirumala as a Non-Hindu: What to Know

We want you to arrive informed. The Tirumala temple is managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which sets the entry rules. Non-Hindu visitors are asked to sign a declaration of faith in Lord Venkateswara before darshan (viewing the deity), and queues can last many hours. Many of our guests prefer not to sign.

That is why we plan your Tirupati day so it is rewarding without the inner shrine: a fort, a major Shiva temple and the scenic drive up the hills. If you would like to attempt darshan, tell us when you book. Slots are limited and booked online in advance, and we will check the current rules for your dates.

PRACTICAL NOTES

  • Temple rules: Cover shoulders and knees at temples and mosques, and remove shoes. At Tirumala and Tiruchanur, non-Hindu visitors are asked to sign a declaration of faith before darshan. We plan the Tirupati day so that it does not depend on it.

  • Dress code: Light cotton, a hat and sunscreen. Pack a light layer for winter evenings on the plateau.

  • Heat: Warangal and Vijayawada are very hot from March to June. Carry water and plan outdoor sightseeing for the morning and late afternoon.

  • Safety: Hyderabad and the two states are among the easier regions of India to travel in. Our team is reachable 24 hours. Use ordinary city care in bazaars and crowds.

  • Drinking water: Drink bottled or filtered water only. Your vehicle and hotels provide it.

  • Photography: Rules differ at each temple and museum. Photography is not allowed inside Tirumala. Drones cannot be flown by foreign visitors.

  • Alcohol: Served at the hotels. Both states have dry days, and Tirumala and its town are alcohol-free.

  • Tipping: Not compulsory. As a rough guide: driver Rs.300–500 per day, guides Rs.500 per visit, hotel staff at your discretion.

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi at all the hotels. Mobile signal is good in towns.

  • Visa: Most nationalities can apply for an Indian e-Visa online before travel. Allow at least a week.

Itinerary (Day Wise)

If you’ve already seen Rajasthan or Kerala and want somewhere fewer people go, this week across the Deccan is a good next step. You start in Hyderabad. Climb Golconda Fort, where a clap at the gate carries all the way to the top, then walk among the domed royal tombs and lose an hour in the bangle shops around Charminar. Save room for a proper Hyderabadi biryani. Next you drive to Warangal for the old Kakatiya fort and the Thousand Pillar temple, then on to Ramappa, an 800-year-old temple with dancers carved into its pillars and now on the UNESCO list. At Vijayawada you cross the Krishna river to the Undavalli caves, cut into the hillside some 1,500 years ago. After that comes the one long drive, south to Tirupati. You spend your last full day around the Tirumala hills, with the old fort at Chandragiri and the temple at Sri Kalahasti, before an easy flight home from Tirupati.

Day 2

HYDERABAD | FORTS, TOMBS AND BAZAAR

Route: Charminar – Laad Bazaar – Chowmahalla Palace – Qutb Shahi tombs – Golconda Fort – Hyderabad, about 60 km

Start in the old city at Charminar, a granite and lime-mortar gateway with four minarets, built in 1591. Walk through the Laad Bazaar behind it, where shops sell glass bangles, silver and pearls. Hyderabad has long been a pearl-trading city.

Visit Chowmahalla Palace, the main seat of the Nizams, with its courtyards, the grand durbar hall and a collection of old cars.

In the afternoon, drive west to the Qutb Shahi tombs, a group of domed tombs of the sultans who ruled from Golconda. Then climb Golconda Fort. The fort stands on a granite hill, and the builders designed it so that a hand clap at the main gate carries to the top. At the summit, the whole plateau opens below.

Return to the hotel in the evening. If you want to see Golconda lit, the sound and light show is held on most evenings.

Note on opening days: The Salar Jung Museum is closed on Fridays, and Golconda and the tombs have set hours. Your guide adjusts the order of the day to the opening hours. Clothing at the old-city mosques should cover shoulders and knees.

Experience of the Day

  • Charminar and Laad Bazaar

  • Chowmahalla Palace

  • Qutb Shahi tombs and Golconda Fort

Food

Recommended: Lunch at a classic old-city restaurant.

Must-Try: Hyderabadi haleem in season, or a plate of kebabs, with Irani chai.

  • Optional sound and light show at Golconda (paid separately)

Day 3

HYDERABAD TO WARANGAL | KAKATIYA CAPITAL AND RAMAPPA

Route: Hyderabad – Warangal – Palampet (Ramappa) – Warangal, about 150 km to Warangal, 70 km each way to Ramappa

Leave Hyderabad early and drive east to Warangal, capital of the Kakatiya dynasty from the 12th to the early 14th century. In the morning, visit the Thousand Pillar temple, a Shiva temple built around 1163 CE with a pillared hall and a black polished Nandi bull. Then visit Warangal Fort. Its ruined gateways, the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, are four stone arches that have become the emblem of Telangana.

After lunch, drive about 70 km to Palampet and the Ramappa temple, built in 1213 CE and named after its sculptor. UNESCO listed it in 2021. The carving is of dolerite, a very hard black stone, and has kept a polish for eight centuries. The pillars and brackets carry figures of dancers and musicians, many in motion. The tower is reported to use lightweight bricks, and the foundation sits on a bed of sand that acts as a cushion in earthquakes.

Drive back to Warangal by dusk. Your hotel is a simple but comfortable one in Hanamkonda, near the fort. Warangal has no luxury hotels.

Note on light and hours: The Ramappa temple is best seen in the afternoon, when the light rakes across the carvings. Opening hours change, and your guide confirms them. The temple stands in the open, and the sun is strong from March to June.

Experience of the Day

  • Thousand Pillar temple

  • Warangal Fort and Kakatiya Kala Thoranam

  • Ramappa temple at Palampet

Food

Recommended: Lunch at a Warangal restaurant.

Must-Try: Telangana-style jowar roti with a spicy curry, and a plate of pulao.

Shopping

Warangal's handwoven cotton rugs and dhurries.

Activities to Do

  • Early dinner

  • Short walk near the fort if time allows

Day 4

WARANGAL TO VIJAYAWADA | THE RIVER AND THE CAVES

Route: Warangal – Khammam – Vijayawada – Undavalli caves – Kanaka Durga temple, about 240 km

After breakfast, drive south-east across the Telangana plateau to the Andhra coast. Fields of cotton, chilli and rice line the road. You cross from Telangana into Andhra Pradesh before reaching Vijayawada, a busy city on the Krishna river.

In the afternoon, visit the Undavalli caves, about 6 km from the city. Monks and kings cut a multi-storey cave temple into a sandstone hill in the 4th and 5th centuries. Inside, a reclining Vishnu is carved from a single block of stone.

In the evening, visit the Kanaka Durga temple on Indrakeeladri hill, above the river. After the temple, walk along the river or see the Prakasam Barrage, which crosses the Krishna at the edge of the city.

Note on temple visit: The Kanaka Durga temple is busy, especially in October during Dasara, when pilgrims queue for hours. We time the visit for a quieter hour, and your guide confirms the rules. Dress is modest.

Experience of the Day

  • Drive across the plateau

  • Undavalli caves

  • Kanaka Durga temple above the river

Food

Recommended: Dinner at a Vijayawada restaurant.

Must-Try: Andhra-style spicy meals with gongura chutney, a sour leaf relish.

Activities to Do

  • Walk along the Krishna river

  • Optional visit to Bhavani Island (paid separately)

Day 5

VIJAYAWADA TO TIRUPATI | THE LONG ROAD SOUTH

Route: Vijayawada – Ongole – Nellore – Gudur – Tirupati, about 390 km

This is the longest drive of the tour. The road follows the Andhra coast on a fast highway, past rice fields, aquaculture ponds and small towns. The drive is long but easy, and we stop for lunch at a good restaurant at Nellore.

As the afternoon goes on, the Tirumala hills rise on the horizon, a range of low hills in a row. You arrive in Tirupati in the late afternoon, in time to rest.

If you prefer, you can fly the sector instead. IndiGo flies Vijayawada to Tirupati on some days of the week, in about an hour, but the schedule is limited. We check it for your dates and offer it at a supplement.

Experience of the Day

  • Coast road drive

  • First view of the Tirumala hills

Food

Recommended: Lunch at a Nellore restaurant.

Must-Try: Nellore-style fish curry or an Andhra vegetarian meal.

Activities to Do

  • Rest at the hotel

  • Early dinner

Day 6

TIRUPATI AND THE HILLS | FORT, SHIVA TEMPLE AND THE TIRUMALA ROAD

Route: Tirupati – Chandragiri Fort – Sri Kalahasti – Tirumala drive – Tirupati, about 100 km

Start at Chandragiri Fort, about 12 km from Tirupati, a Vijayanagara-era fort of the 14th and 16th centuries. The Raja Mahal inside holds a small museum. After Hampi fell in 1565, the Vijayanagara rulers later ruled from here.

Drive about 36 km to Sri Kalahasti, a town beside a river, with a Shiva temple built against a rocky hill. Shiva is worshipped here as one of the five elements, here the wind. Your guide takes you through the open courtyards and explains the rituals.

In the afternoon, drive up the winding ghat road to the Tirumala hills. The road climbs through forest, and the air cools. Tirumala has one of India's most visited temples, the Venkateswara temple. Non-Hindu visitors are asked to sign a declaration of faith in Lord Venkateswara before darshan, and queues can run to many hours. We do not plan the inner shrine as a fixed part of the day. If you wish to go, we check the current rule and book what is possible.

Note on Tirumala: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) manage entry and set the rules, and they can change. Darshan slots are limited and are booked online in advance. During the Brahmotsavam festival in September or October and around the Vaikuntha Ekadashi in December or January, crowds are very large. If you want a visit, tell us when you book.

Experience of the Day

  • Chandragiri Fort

  • Sri Kalahasti temple

  • Drive up the Tirumala ghat road

Food

Recommended: Lunch at a restaurant in Tirupati.

Must-Try: Andhra vegetarian thali, a temple-style meal of rice, sambar and curries.

Shopping

Wooden toys and sandalwood carvings from Tirupati's bazaars.

Activities to Do

  • Optional visit to the Tiruchanur temple (rules similar to Tirumala)

  • Optional drive to the Silathoranam rock arch on Tirumala (paid separately)

Day 7

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) & People Also Ask — Andhra Pradesh & Telangana: Twin Deccan Dynasty

We help you prepare for your trip and ensure an effortless and enjoyable travel experience.

How many days do you need for an Andhra Pradesh Telangana tour?

Seven days covers Hyderabad, Warangal, Vijayawada and Tirupati at a steady pace. This plan gives two nights in Hyderabad, one each in Warangal and Vijayawada, and two in Tirupati. With two more days, add a third night in Hyderabad or a night at Sri Kalahasti.

What is the best time to visit Hyderabad, Warangal and Tirupati?

November to February is the best time, with warm days and cool nights. March to June is very hot, with temperatures above 40 °C inland. The north-east monsoon can bring rain and cyclones to the Andhra coast between October and December, so check the forecast.

Can non-Hindus visit the Tirumala temple near Tirupati?

Non-Hindu visitors to the Tirumala temple are asked to sign a declaration of faith in Lord Venkateswara before darshan, and the rule is set by the temple trust, which can change it. Many guests prefer not to sign. This plan fills the Tirupati day with the Chandragiri fort, Sri Kalahasti and the Tirumala hill drive, so it works with or without the inner shrine.

Why visit Warangal and Ramappa on a Telangana tour?

Warangal was the capital of the Kakatiya kings, and Ramappa is the finest temple they left. UNESCO listed it in 2021. The carving is of hard black dolerite, with dancers and musicians still sharp after eight centuries. The Warangal Fort and the Thousand Pillar temple add context.

What is a twin Deccan heritage trip for foreigners like?

It is a trip across the Deccan plateau that follows its dynasties: the Qutb Shahis and Nizams of Hyderabad, the Kakatiyas of Warangal, and the temple traditions of the Andhra coast and Tirupati. You travel by road with a private driver and guide, and the days are paced around each site's opening hours.

Is Hyderabad Tirupati combined package practical for a first visit?

Yes. It has one long drive, Vijayawada to Tirupati, and the rest are about five hours or less. The flight option on that sector shortens the day on the days it runs. Hyderabad gives a comfortable start, and Tirupati has its own airport for the exit.

How long are the drives on this route?

The longest drive is Vijayawada to Tirupati, about 390 km and 6 to 7 hours. Warangal to Vijayawada is about 240 km and 4.5 to 5 hours. Hyderabad to Warangal is about 150 km and 3 hours, and the side trip to Ramappa adds about 70 km each way.

Does Warangal have a luxury hotel?

No. Warangal has no luxury hotel, and the best choice is a simple, comfortable hotel in Hanamkonda. We use it for one night so that Ramappa and the fort can be seen on the same day. The other three stays are Taj Krishna, Novotel Vijayawada Varun and Fortune Select Grand Ridge.

Which airports do we use?

You fly into Hyderabad (HYD) and out of Tirupati (TIR). Tirupati has domestic flights to Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and other cities, and international flights leave from those. For a same-day international flight, allow a long connection or add a night in the connecting city.

How much does a 7-day Andhra Pradesh Telangana tour cost?

This 7-day trip costs about Rs.174,636 to Rs.188,607 per couple in the Premium room tier, about Rs.216,216 to Rs.233,513 for Luxury, and about Rs.294,336 to Rs.317,883 for Ultra-Luxury. Prices include the four hotels, the vehicle, guides, entries and GST. International flights and the flight from Tirupati are not included.

Do we need a visa for India?

Yes. Most nationalities can apply for an Indian e-Visa online before travel. Check which airports accept e-Visa arrivals for your nationality, and apply at least a week ahead on the official e-Visa site.

Can we add Hampi, Bengaluru or Chennai to this trip?

Yes. Tirupati is about 150 km from Chennai and 250 km from Bengaluru, so either city can be a finishing point. Hampi can be added from Hyderabad as a longer extension. Tell us your dates and we will price the extra nights.
