Set out before dawn for the Dal Lake floating vegetable market — one of only two wholesale floating markets of its kind in the world, farmers trading fresh produce boat to boat, much of it still by barter, wrapped up by 7:30 AM. Return for breakfast, then spend the day on Srinagar's Mughal Gardens — Nishat Bagh's lake-facing terraces, Shalimar Bagh's black marble pavilion, and Chashme Shahi's natural spring. Overnight on the houseboat.

Drive south-west into Budgam district to Doodhpathri — the 'Valley of Milk,' named for a Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani legend: searching for water to perform his prayers, the saint struck the ground with his staff, and what emerged first looked like milk before turning to the fast, frothy Shaliganga stream that still runs through the meadow today. Flat, family-easy, and considerably less crowded than the standard four-stop circuit, Doodhpathri's grassy lawns at the Palmaidan and Mujhpathri meadows are built for an unhurried riverside walk rather than a checklist of sights. Overnight in Doodhpathri.

Drive to Yusmarg — the 'Meadow of Jesus,' according to local legend, and historically a favoured retreat for Kashmiri rulers seeking distance from the valley below — via Charar-e-Sharief, home to the six-hundred-year-old Dargah of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, Kashmir's most revered Sufi saint and known locally as Alamdar-e-Kashmir, 'the flag-bearer of Kashmir.' Pause briefly at the shrine before continuing into Yusmarg's denser pine forest, noticeably quieter and greener than Doodhpathri. In the afternoon, take the forest trek to Nilnag Lake — a short, scenic walk of three to five kilometres through cedar and pine to a blue-green lake ringed by dense forest, considerably less visited than any stop on the standard circuit. Overnight in Yusmarg.

On arrival, take the Gondola: Phase 1 climbing from pine forest and the Gulmarg golf course to Kongdoori, then Phase 2 continuing to Apharwat Peak, where snow persists through the year regardless of season below. On a clear day, Nanga Parbat is visible on the horizon. Overnight in Gulmarg.

Drive north through Srinagar to Sonamarg — the 'Meadow of Gold' and the last major stop before the Zoji La pass carries the road toward Ladakh. Head straight for Thajiwas Glacier, reached by a roughly three-kilometre pony trail through pine forest opening onto a wide glacial bowl. Even in summer the glacier holds enough snow for photographs, framed by peaks sharper than any of the circuit's five previous stops. Overnight in Sonamarg.
