About

Holi is the most joyful day in the Indian calendar. Strangers become friends, the streets turn pink, green and yellow, and everyone, young and old, is covered in colour. It is also loud, messy and, if you arrive unprepared, a little overwhelming.

This 6-day tour lets you enjoy Holi the way it should be enjoyed: fully, and without worry. You celebrate in Pushkar, a small holy town around a sacred lake, with a tour leader who stays with you from the airport to the airport. You play with organic colours at a private venue with music, sweets and thandai, with clear rules and a way out whenever you want one. Before the festival, you explore the forts and palaces of Jaipur.

When is Holi 2027, and where is this tour?

In 2027, Holika Dahan (the bonfire night) falls on Sunday 21 March and Holi, the colour day, on Monday 22 March. This small-group tour runs from 19 to 24 March 2027, with two nights in Jaipur and three in Pushkar, so you spend both Holi days in Pushkar. Prices start from about Rs. 75,000 per person (twin share, Premium hotels), for a group of up to eight guests.

Holi is a spring festival of colour. People smear dry powder and throw coloured water at one another, eat sweets and drink thandai. It is joyful, loud and messy, and for first-time visitors it can also be overwhelming. This plan is built around the practical concerns of foreign guests: which clothes to wear, how to protect skin and eyes, how consent works when everyone is throwing colour, and how to stay safe in a crowd.

On the colour day the group plays Holi together, in a controlled setting chosen by the tour leader, with organic colours, a breakfast, music and a way out whenever anyone wants a break. Nobody is pushed to join in. The leader decides each hour whether the lake ghats or the hotel garden is the better place to be, and the group stays together.

This is a Holi festival tour India travellers can book as a set departure, and a Rajasthan Holi tour package that combines the colour of the festival with Jaipur’s forts and Pushkar’s lake. It is the best way to experience Holi in India for a guest who wants a leader, a small group and clear rules, with the festival dates published for 2027. Guests who want to experience Holi in India with a guide can also use it as a short Rajasthan festival tour of six days.

Three tiers change the hotels. Premium uses well-reviewed comfort hotels with pools and gardens in Jaipur and a lakeside hotel or garden hotel in Pushkar. Luxury uses Taj Jai Mahal Palace and Gulaab Niwaas Palace. Ultra-Luxury uses Rambagh Palace and the top suite at Gulaab Niwaas Palace. Cars, leader and day plans are the same in every tier.

What Is Holi, and Why Celebrate It in Rajasthan?

Holi is the Hindu festival of spring and colour. It falls on the full moon of the month of Phalguna, so the date changes each year and usually lands in March.

It happens over two days:

  • Holika Dahan. On the evening before, bonfires are lit across India to mark the story of Prahlad and Holika, the victory of good over evil.

  • Holi, the colour day. The next morning, people throw coloured powder (gulal) and coloured water at one another, share sweets like gujiya, and drink thandai, a cool spiced milk drink. Celebrations usually start around 9 a.m. and wind down by early afternoon.

Rajasthan is a lovely place to experience it. You get the colour and warmth of the festival, plus spring weather, desert towns and royal palaces on either side of it. And Pushkar, with its lake, ghats and temples, gives Holi a gentler, small-town feel than the big cities.

Why Pushkar for Holi?

Holi is celebrated everywhere in India, but the experience varies a lot depending on where you are. Here is how the most popular choices compare for a first-time foreign visitor.

Why Pushkar for Holi?

With a private venue, a small group and a leader choosing where to be each hour, Pushkar lets you enjoy the festival without feeling lost in it.

How We Keep Holi Fun and Safe

Guests who plan a trip around Holi want two things: to join in, and to feel safe doing it. This tour is built around both.

A leader with you all six days

Your tour leader meets you at Jaipur arrivals and stays with the group until you leave Pushkar. On the colour day, the leader decides each hour whether the private venue, the hotel garden or a short look at the street celebrations is the right place to be, and keeps everyone together.

A private celebration with organic colours

The main celebration happens at a private garden or courtyard with organic colours, music, sweets and thandai made without bhang. Coloured water is used in moderation. Nobody is pushed to join in, and anyone who wants a break can return to the hotel with a driver straight away.

Consent comes first

Holi is playful, but you decide what happens to you. On Day 1 your leader explains how to say no, how to ask before putting colour on someone, what to do if a stranger is too rough, and where the group meets if anyone wants to leave. You are never left alone in a crowd.

Prepared from head to toe

Every guest receives a white cotton Holi kit and a simple skin and eye care guide. The leader checks that everyone has oil, sunglasses and a waterproof phone pouch before the big day.

WHY BOOK THIS WITH BIZAREXPEDITION

Guests who plan a trip around Holi want to join in, and they want to feel safe doing it. Here is how this tour handles each one.

  • A tour leader for all six days. The leader meets you at Jaipur arrivals on Day 1 and stays with the group until you leave Pushkar on Day 6. The leader decides where the group plays Holi, keeps everyone together, and is the person to call at any hour.

  • Consent and safety planned in advance. The Day 1 briefing covers how to say no, how to ask before putting colour on someone, what to do if a stranger is too rough, and where the group meets if anyone wants to leave. Guests are never left alone in a crowd on the colour day.

  • Colour-safe preparation. Each guest gets a white cotton kit and a skin and eye care guide, and the leader explains oiling, sunglasses, phone protection and what to do about colour in the eyes. Organic colours are used at the group’s own celebration.

  • Two private cars, never a coach. Two Innova cars carry the group on every drive and every outing. The same drivers stay for all six days, with sealed bottled water in the cars every day.

  • Rooms held for Holi week. Pushkar’s hotels fill early for Holi. Our team holds rooms for your tier and confirms the property before you pay the balance.

HOLI DATES AND DEPARTURE

Holi falls on the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Phalguna, so its date changes every year, usually in March. The 2027 dates above come from published festival calendars and are reconfirmed before booking. The tour runs on its fixed dates only.

HOLI FOR FOREIGN GUESTS: WHAT TO KNOW

  • Clothes. Wear old white or light cotton clothes that you do not mind staining for good, with long sleeves and loose trousers, and washable closed shoes. Colours stain fabric for a long time and often stay on skin and hair for days. Each guest receives a white cotton kit on Day 2.

  • Skin, hair and eyes. Rub coconut or any plain oil on your hair, face, neck and arms before you go out, which helps colour wash off. Wear sunglasses, and keep your mouth closed when someone puts colour on your face. If colour gets into your eyes, rinse with clean water and tell the leader. Synthetic colours can irritate the eyes and skin, and the group uses organic colours at its own celebration.

  • Consent. Holi is playful, but you decide what happens to you. Say ‘no’ clearly and move away if you do not want colour, and ask before you put colour on others. Groups of young men in the street can be rough, and guests who feel uncomfortable go back to the leader at once. Foreign women are advised to stay in the group and not to join street crowds alone.

  • Crowds and safety. The street celebrations on the colour day can be loud and dense. The leader picks the safest place for each hour and keeps the group together. Keep valuables, passports and cash in the hotel safe, and carry only a small amount of cash.

  • Phones and cameras. Colour and water ruin electronics. Use a waterproof pouch for your phone and leave good cameras at the hotel, or ask the leader to hold a camera for group photographs. Disposable cameras are an option for the day.

  • Thandai and bhang. Thandai is a milk drink served at Holi. Some of it is mixed with bhang, a cannabis preparation, which can hit strongly and affect travellers badly. The group’s own thandai has no bhang, and guests are advised to ask before drinking anything offered by a stranger.

  • The lake. Pushkar’s lake is holy. Colour is not thrown into the water, and the leader chooses where the group plays so that the ghats are treated with respect.

PRACTICAL NOTES

  • Your tour leader.

The leader stays with the group from the airport on Day 1 to the airport on Day 6. We send the leader’s name and background before you book. The leader decides where the group plays Holi and when to leave, and the group follows that call.

  • Fitness.

The days include walking at the forts and the steps at Savitri Temple, which is optional. Holi itself is energetic and wet, and not everyone wants to play for long. Guests can step out at any time.

  • Medical and skin.

Tell us in advance about skin conditions, asthma, contact lenses or eye problems. Colour powder can irritate the skin, eyes and lungs. Bring a basic first-aid kit, eye drops and your usual medicines.

  • Water and food.

Drink only sealed bottled water, and use it to brush your teeth. Avoid ice and tap water. Eat freshly cooked, hot food, and skip salads and unpeeled raw fruit. Pushkar is a vegetarian town, and meat and alcohol are not sold near the lake. Vegan and allergy needs are noted at booking.

  • Health before you travel.

See your doctor or a travel clinic four to six weeks before departure about routine and travel vaccinations. BizareXpedition does not give medical advice.

  • Dress and shrines.

Light, loose clothing that covers shoulders and knees suits both the weather and the lake. Heads are covered and shoes come off at shrines and temples. The white Holi kit is for the colour day only.

  • Approaches from strangers.

Near the ghats and the markets, people may offer to guide you, sell you something or hand you flowers for a paid blessing. You can say no politely and keep walking. On the colour day, strangers may also try to put colour on you, and you can say no. The leader walks with you, so you never have to deal with it alone.

  • Money, phone and internet.

Carry a small amount of rupees for tips and small purchases. Cards work at hotels and larger shops. Wi-Fi is available at many hotels, and a local SIM or eSIM is given to each guest on Day 1.

  • Visa.

Citizens of many Western countries apply online for an India e-Tourist visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in. Apply well before you fly, and check the current rules and fees for your nationality, since they can change.

  • Tipping.

Tips for drivers, the leader and hotel staff are at your discretion. A common range is Rs.500–1,000 per day for the drivers and leader combined, and small change for hotel porters.

Itinerary (Day Wise)

Holi is the most joyful day in the Indian calendar. The streets turn pink, green and yellow, and strangers become friends. For a first-time visitor it can also be a lot to take in, so this tour is designed to let you enjoy it fully without the worry. You spend two days in Jaipur first, among the forts and palaces. Then you move to Pushkar, a small holy town around a sacred lake, for both nights of the festival. On Sunday 21 March you’ll watch the Holika Dahan bonfire. The next morning you play Holi with organic colours at a private venue with music, sweets and thandai. Everyone gets a white cotton outfit, and there’s always a way out if you want a break. A tour leader stays with the group of up to eight from arrival to departure. The leader goes over consent and crowd safety on the first day, so you know exactly how to join in, and how to say no.

The road runs west to Ajmer. The first stop is Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra, a mosque begun in the late 12th century and known for its carved pillars and arches. Lunch is in Ajmer. The road to Pushkar crosses a low pass and takes about half an hour, and the group reaches the hotel by mid-afternoon.

In the early evening the leader walks the group to the ghats for the lake’s evening aarti. After dinner the group goes to see the Holika Dahan bonfire, where a pile of wood is lit to mark the story of Prahlad and Holika, the victory of good over evil. The leader explains the story and keeps the group a safe distance from the fire and the crowd. Dahan is held at a time fixed by the priests, and the leader confirms it on the day.

Note on Pushkar etiquette: Pushkar is a holy town. Shoes come off near the lake, shoulders and knees are covered, and people bathing are not photographed. Meat and alcohol are not sold near the lake. If a stranger offers you flowers, the leader handles it.

It is a private garden or courtyard with organic colours, music, sweets and thandai without bhang. People throw dry powder at one another, and coloured water is used in moderation.

Later in the morning the leader may take the group to see the street celebrations in the town for a short time, only if the crowd is calm. Everyone stays together, and anyone who wants to leave can go back to the hotel with a driver at once. After lunch the group showers and rests, and the afternoon is free. Festivities begin around 9 a.m. and wind down by early afternoon. The evening is a quiet dinner at the hotel.

The rest of the day is free. Many guests rest by the pool, shop, read in a rooftop café or visit the Brahma Temple. Colour often lingers on skin, hair and clothes for a day or two, and the leader suggests oil and a gentle wash. In the evening the group gathers for a farewell dinner.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) & People Also Ask — Holi Festival Rajasthan Special

We help you prepare for your trip and ensure an effortless and enjoyable travel experience.

When is Holi in 2027?

Holika Dahan, the bonfire, is on Sunday 21 March 2027, and Holi, the colour day, is on Monday 22 March 2027. Holi follows the Hindu lunar calendar, so the date changes every year. We reconfirm the dates before you book and again 30 days before departure.

Is Holi safe for foreign visitors?

It can be, with preparation. The street celebrations are crowded and sometimes rough, and the leader decides where the group plays and keeps everyone together. Foreign women are advised to stay with the group and not to join street crowds alone.

What if I do not want to be covered in colour?

You can say no, and nobody is pushed to join in. Guests can watch from the edge, step out for a break or go back to the hotel with a driver at any time. Ask before putting colour on others, as you would want them to ask you.

What should I wear, and how do I protect my skin and eyes?

Wear old white or light cotton clothes with long sleeves, washable closed shoes and sunglasses. Rub plain oil on your hair, face, neck and arms beforehand. Each guest receives a white cotton kit on Day 2 and a skin and eye care guide.

What about my phone and camera?

Colour and water ruin electronics. Use a waterproof pouch for your phone, leave good cameras at the hotel, or ask the leader to take photographs of the group.

What is bhang, and will it be served?

Bhang is a cannabis preparation that is sometimes mixed into thandai at Holi, and it can affect travellers strongly. The group’s own thandai has no bhang, and we advise guests to ask before drinking anything offered by a stranger.

Why is the group in Pushkar for Holi?

Pushkar is a small holy town where the group can be together at a private venue, with the leader choosing the place for each hour. It also keeps the day away from the larger city crowds. The first two nights are in Jaipur.

Is it a private tour or a group tour?

It is a small-group set departure of up to eight guests with a tour leader and two private cars, with no coaches. A private departure is possible on the same dates at a higher price.

What kind of hotels will we stay in?

Premium uses well-reviewed comfort hotels with a pool in Jaipur and a lakeside or garden hotel in Pushkar. Luxury names Taj Jai Mahal Palace and Gulaab Niwaas Palace, and Ultra-Luxury names Rambagh Palace and the top suite at Gulaab Niwaas Palace. Hotel names are subject to availability.

Where does the tour end?

It ends with a drive from Pushkar to Jaipur airport on Day 6, which takes about three hours. Flights from Jaipur are mainly domestic, so guests flying home connect through Delhi or Mumbai. A drive to Delhi takes about seven hours, and we suggest an added night.

Do I need a visa for India?

Citizens of about 166 countries can apply online for an e-Tourist visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in. Passports need at least six months’ validity and two blank pages. Apply early and check the current rules and fees for your nationality.

How much does the tour cost?

The modelled price for this 6-day tour is Rs.75,000–Rs.81,000 per person at Premium, Rs.138,000–Rs.149,000 at Luxury and Rs.270,300–Rs.291,900 at Ultra-Luxury, in a twin share for a group of eight. The single supplement is Rs.26,000, Rs.66,000 and Rs.150,000. Pushkar is priced at an assumed Holi-week rate. These are indicative ranges, not a live quote.
