About
The Rann of Kutch full moon tour is a private 5-day trip from Ahmedabad to the White Rann, a vast salt desert in Gujarat, India. You stay three nights at Tent City Dhordo, timed so two evenings fall close to a full moon, when the white salt shines under the moonlight. It runs during the Rann Utsav season, November to February. Prices start at about ₹54,873 per person.
Picture flat white ground stretching to the horizon in every direction. No trees, no hills, no buildings. Just salt, sky and silence. Now picture that same landscape at night, under a full moon, when the salt catches the moonlight and seems to glow. That's the White Rann of Kutch, and it's one of the most unforgettable sights in India.
Here's the thing most tours don't tell you: the full moon effect only lasts a few nights each month. Visit a week early or late and you'll see a dark desert. That's why we build this trip around the real full moon calendar. You stay three nights at Tent City Dhordo, not the usual two, so you get two moonlit evenings on the salt. If clouds roll in one night, you still have another chance.
It's a simple, focused trip. No rushing between museums and villages. Just the desert, the moon and the warm hospitality of Kutch.

Rann of Kutch White Desert Full Moon Dates
The Rann Utsav festival season usually runs from early November to late February or early March. Exact opening and closing dates are announced each year, and we confirm them when you book.
What Is the White Rann of Kutch?
The Great Rann of Kutch is a huge seasonal salt marsh in western Gujarat, close to the border with Pakistan. During the monsoon, it floods with shallow seawater. When the water dries up in autumn, it leaves behind a thick crust of white salt. By winter, the ground is hard and dry enough to walk on, and it looks almost like snow.
The most visited part is near Dhordo, a small village in Kutch that UNWTO named one of the Best Tourism Villages in the world in 2023. Each winter, Gujarat Tourism sets up Tent City here for the Rann Utsav, a season-long festival of music, food, crafts and desert life.
Why Time Your Trip to the Full Moon?
On a moonless night, the White Rann is dark and the sky is full of stars. On a full moon night, the salt reflects the moonlight and the whole desert seems to light up in soft silver. Moonrise over the flat horizon is the moment most people come for.
What You'll Experience
We don't share a day-by-day plan on this page, but here's what the five days include.
A calm start in Ahmedabad - You spend your first night in Ahmedabad. Your guide explains how the full moon timing works and what to expect in the desert, so you start the trip relaxed and ready.
Into the desert - The drive to Dhordo is long, close to eight hours, via the city of Bhuj and the Bhirandiyara checkpost, where your desert permit is processed. You arrive in time for your first sunset walk on the salt.
Moonlight, sunsets and Kutchi culture - Over the next two days, you drive up to Kala Dungar for sunset, ride a camel cart onto the salt at moonrise, and try an ATV ride across the flats. Evenings at Tent City bring folk music, dance and a full Kutchi dinner. If you like, you can also visit Hodka village to see local mud-house architecture and crafts.
One last look - Before you leave, you take a final morning walk on the salt. The desert looks completely different in the early light, so don't skip it.

WHY BOOK THIS WITH BIZAREXPEDITION
A standalone, full-moon-dated white desert kutch tour international travellers can book on its own, not a generic Kutch combo: this is a different, shorter, and more precisely timed product than BizareXpedition's own existing Rann Utsav glamping itinerary.
Dated to an actual full moon, not a loose season. This itinerary's Dhordo nights are chosen against the published full-moon calendar for your departure window, disclosed in Season Adjustments, rather than promising "full moon season" and leaving the actual date to chance.
Two moonlit nights, not one. Three nights at Tent City Dhordo, against the usual two, specifically so a single cloudy evening or a delayed arrival doesn't cost you the whole bucket-list moment.
A different trip from BizareXpedition's own Rann Utsav Glamping Weekend. That itinerary (GJ-INT-19) is a four-day luxury-glamping bucket-list trip built around the tent experience itself; this one is five days, full-moon-dated specifically, and built around the lunar calendar as the organizing idea.
The desert alone, not stretched to cover everything Kutch offers. Dholavira's archaeology and the Bhuj-area craft villages are genuine BizareXpedition products in their own right (GJ-INT-24, GJ-INT-18); this trip stays focused on the White Rann itself.
A registered company, not a middleman. BizareXpedition Services Pvt. Ltd. (CIN U63090UR2016PTC007433), headquartered in Haridwar, plans and runs the trip itself.
SEASON ADJUSTMENTS
This trip only runs inside the Rann Utsav season, when Tent City Dhordo itself is open; full-moon dates below are the actual calendar dates this itinerary is built around.
| Full-Moon Date | Suggested Dhordo Window | Notes |
|---|---|---|
|
24 November 2026 |
22-25 November 2026 |
Early in the season; pleasant night temperatures. |
|
24 December 2026 |
22-25 December 2026 |
Peak season; book well ahead, rates run higher around Christmas/New Year. |
|
22 January 2027 |
20-23 January 2027 |
Coolest nights of the season; carry warm layers for the evening salt walk. |
|
21 February 2027 |
19-22 February 2027 |
Late season; the Rann Utsav season's close date is reported inconsistently across sources (7 March vs 28 February 2027), so this window is kept safely inside both. |
Rann of Kutch White Desert Season Adjustments
Rann Utsav season 2026-27 is reported as running from 1 November 2026, with the close date disputed between two sources (7 March 2027) and a third (28 February 2027); this itinerary's suggested windows above sit inside either case.
PRACTICAL NOTES
Full-moon illumination peaks for a few nights, not a few weeks. The reflected-moonlight effect on the salt is strongest roughly two to three nights either side of the calendar full-moon date; this itinerary's Dhordo stay is timed against that window specifically, not against a vague monthly "full moon season".
The border-area permit is compulsory for every visitor. Processed at the Bhirandiyara checkpost on production of a government ID (passport for foreign nationals); built into Day 2's drive, not an extra stop.
Tent City's rates rise on full-moon and blackout-period nights. The Cost Build-Up table uses standard rates; your specific departure dates may carry a full-moon-night premium, confirmed at the time of booking.
This is a shorter, more specifically timed trip than BizareXpedition's Rann Utsav Glamping Weekend (GJ-INT-19). That trip is four days built around the luxury-tent experience itself; this one is five days built around the lunar calendar, with an extra Dhordo night for exactly that reason.
Gujarat is dry. Foreigners can apply for a free temporary tourist liquor permit; none of this trip's included meals involve alcohol as standard.
The Ahmedabad-Dhordo drive is a properly long day. Close to eight hours door to door including the permit stop; this itinerary schedules nothing else on Day 2 or Day 5 for that reason.
Season dates are reported inconsistently. Two trade sources give a 7 March 2027 season close, a third gives 28 February 2027; this itinerary's suggested full-moon windows are kept safely inside both, and exact season dates are reconfirmed at booking.
Extending the trip. Dholavira's Harappan archaeology (GJ-INT-24) and the Bhuj-area craft villages (GJ-INT-18) are both realistic additions from the same Bhuj gateway, for guests who want more of Kutch beyond the White Rann itself.

Itinerary (Day Wise)
You land in Ahmedabad and spend the first night there. Over dinner, your guide explains how the trip is timed around the full moon. The next morning is an early start for the long drive to Dhordo, about eight hours through Bhuj, with a stop at the Bhirandiyara checkpost for your desert permit. You reach Tent City in time to walk out onto the salt for your first sunset. Over the next two days you drive up to Kala Dungar for the view across the desert, take a camel cart onto the salt as the moon rises, and try an ATV ride across the flats. If you'd like, you can also visit Hodka village. Evenings at Tent City are for folk music and a proper Kutchi dinner. On the last morning you take one more walk on the salt before driving back to Ahmedabad for your flight.
Day 1
ARRIVAL IN AHMEDABAD | BRIEFING ON THE FULL-MOON CALENDAR
Route: Arrival at Ahmedabad; evening briefing
Your guide meets you at Ahmedabad airport for a rann of kutch full moon tour built specifically around the lunar calendar rather than a generic desert-camp weekend: five days timed so that at least two of your three nights at Dhordo fall as close as workable to an actual full moon, when the White Rann's salt crust reflects the moonlight back across 30,000 square kilometres of flat white desert, a genuine optical effect rather than a marketing line.
The evening briefing sets out exactly how this works: this trip's dates are built around the published full-moon calendar for the Rann Utsav season, not picked at random, and the itinerary explains which nights at Dhordo are the closest to peak illumination for your specific departure.
Experience of the Day
Airport pickup and transfer to the hotel
Evening briefing on the full-moon calendar and the trip's White Desert bucket-list itinerary
Food
Recommended: Dinner at the hotel, a Gujarati thali before an early start.
Must-Try: Masala chai, the first of many on this trip.
Activities to Do
Hotel check-in
Full-moon calendar briefing
Day 2
AHMEDABAD TO DHORDO | THE LONG DRIVE IN, FIRST SALT-FLAT SUNSET
Route: Ahmedabad to Bhuj (about 340 km), Bhuj to Dhordo (about 85 km), permit formalities at Bhirandiyara checkpost
The drive to Dhordo runs close to eight hours door to door, the trip's one properly long day, kept as a single drive rather than split with a waypoint night since the full chained distance (about 425 km) sits comfortably under the point where this itinerary would otherwise add one. The Bhirandiyara checkpost formalities are built into the day: the White Rann sits inside a border-restricted zone, and every visitor, Indian or foreign, carries a permit from here before entering.
Check-in at Tent City is timed for a late-afternoon arrival, so your first sunset on the salt comes the same evening: a short walk out onto the white desert as the light drops, with Kala Dungar's own sunset excursion saved for Day 3 so this first evening stays unhurried.
Experience of the Day
Drive to Dhordo via Bhuj, with a stop at Bhirandiyara for permit formalities
Check-in at Tent City
First evening salt-flat walk at sunset
Food
Recommended: Lunch en route, a stop in Bhuj.
Must-Try: Dinner at Tent City, a full Kutchi spread as part of the evening's cultural programme.
Activities to Do
Drive to Dhordo
Permit formalities at Bhirandiyara
First sunset salt walk
Day 3
KALA DUNGAR AND THE FIRST FULL-MOON NIGHT | BLACK HILL AT SUNSET, MOONRISE ON THE SALT
Route: Dhordo, local: Kala Dungar day trip and evening on the White Rann
The day's excursion is Kala Dungar, Kutch's highest point, inside the same permit zone as the Rann itself so no separate pass is needed: a genuine sunset viewpoint over the white desert's full sweep, confirmed as one of this trip's two headline vantage points rather than a single stop squeezed into a longer day.
The evening is built around this departure's nearest full-moon date (see the Season Adjustments table): camel cart ride out onto the salt as the moon rises, with illumination at its most striking in the hour either side of moonrise itself rather than at any point during the night, a detail this itinerary times for rather than leaving to chance.
Note: Full-moon illumination on the salt is strongest for roughly two to three nights centred on the calendar full-moon date, not the whole month; this itinerary's Dhordo nights are chosen against the published full-moon dates for your departure window specifically for this reason, disclosed here rather than left as a vague "full moon season" promise.
Experience of the Day
Kala Dungar sunset excursion
Camel cart ride on the White Rann at moonrise
Evening cultural programme at Tent City
Food
Recommended: Lunch at Tent City between excursions.
Must-Try: Dinner at Tent City, with a folk-music performance as part of the evening programme.
Activities to Do
Kala Dungar excursion
Moonrise camel cart ride
Day 4
ATV ON THE SALT, SECOND FULL-MOON NIGHT | A SECOND NIGHT TIMED THE SAME WAY
Route: Dhordo, local: ATV ride on the White Rann, optional Hodka village visit
The morning's ATV ride covers more ground on the salt than the camel cart allows, a different way of taking in the same white desert; an optional afternoon stop at Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort, Hodka, a community-run rural-tourism venture, gives a look at traditional bhunga mud-house architecture away from the desert itself, for guests who want it.
A second evening on the salt closes out this trip's full-moon window, since a bucket-list visit built around one night only leaves no room for cloud cover or a shifted arrival time; this itinerary's three Dhordo nights are the reason two full-moon-timed evenings, not one, are built in.
Experience of the Day
ATV ride on the White Rann
Optional Hodka village visit (Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort)
Second evening on the salt at moonrise
Food
Recommended: Lunch at Tent City.
Must-Try: Dinner at Tent City, the trip's farewell Kutchi dinner.
Shopping
Kutch handicrafts available at Tent City's own craft stalls and at Hodka, if visited.
Activities to Do
ATV ride
Optional Hodka village visit
Second moonrise evening on the salt
Optional Nearby Excursions
Shaam-e-Sarhad Village Resort, Hodka (optional, priced separately if a private vehicle detour is needed)
Day 5
RETURN TO AHMEDABAD, DEPARTURE | THE LONG DRIVE BACK
Route: Dhordo to Bhuj (about 85 km), Bhuj to Ahmedabad (about 340 km); Ahmedabad airport, departure
A final early walk on the salt before checkout, since the desert looks distinctly different in flat morning light than it does at sunset or under moonlight, then the same roughly eight-hour drive back to Ahmedabad for your onward or international departure.
Five days built entirely around one calendar event, not stretched to cover Kutch's wider archaeology or craft villages (both genuine BizareXpedition products in their own right): a dedicated white desert kutch tour international bucket-list travellers can time to an actual full moon, rather than visiting the Rann at some point in a longer itinerary and hoping for good timing.
Experience of the Day
Final morning salt walk
Drive back to Ahmedabad via Bhuj
Transfer to Ahmedabad airport
Food
Recommended: Breakfast at Tent City before checkout.
Must-Try: A last cup of masala chai en route to Ahmedabad.
Activities to Do
Final salt walk

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) & People Also Ask — Rann of Kutch White Desert: Full-Moon Bucket-List
We help you prepare for your trip and ensure an effortless and enjoyable travel experience.
Is this really a rann of kutch full moon tour, or just a regular desert-camp trip with the name attached?
It's precisely dated: this itinerary's Dhordo nights are chosen against the published full-moon calendar for the Rann Utsav season, listed by date in Season Adjustments, not left as a loose seasonal claim.
Is this the same as any other white desert kutch tour international travellers might find, or BizareXpedition's own Rann Utsav trip?
No to both: most White Desert trips fold Dhordo into a longer Kutch combo without reference to the lunar calendar, and BizareXpedition's own Rann Utsav Glamping Weekend (GJ-INT-19) is a separate four-day trip built around the luxury-tent experience itself. This one is five days, standalone, and dated to the actual full-moon calendar.
Why three nights at Tent City instead of the usual two?
So a single cloudy evening or a delayed arrival doesn't cost the whole bucket-list moment; two full-moon-timed evenings are built in instead of one.
Will we actually see the moonlight effect on the salt?
On a clear night close to the scheduled full-moon date, yes; this is a real optical effect from moonlight reflecting off the salt crust, not a marketing description, though cloud cover on any single night can't be guaranteed against, which is part of why this itinerary builds in two nights rather than one.
Do we need a special permit?
Yes, every visitor does, Indian or foreign; it's processed at the Bhirandiyara checkpost on the way in and is included in this itinerary's cost.
Is this a kutch desert bucket list holiday suitable for a short trip to India?
Yes; at five days it's a compact, focused trip built to pair easily with a longer Rajasthan or Gujarat itinerary on either end.
What's the best time of year for this trip?
November to February, the Rann Utsav season; this itinerary's suggested windows (see Season Adjustments) are timed to the season's own full-moon dates.
Can we extend into Dholavira or the Kutch craft villages?
Yes; both are realistic additions from the same Bhuj gateway, and are genuine BizareXpedition products in their own right (GJ-INT-24, GJ-INT-18).
Is alcohol available?
Gujarat is dry; foreigners can apply for a free temporary tourist liquor permit, though none of this trip's included meals involve alcohol as standard.
What's included at Tent City?
Full-board meals, the camel cart ride, the ATV ride, the Kala Dungar excursion and the evening cultural programme are all included across all three nights.
How far is Dhordo from Ahmedabad?
About 425 km combined (Ahmedabad-Bhuj 340 km, Bhuj-Dhordo 85 km), a single long drive of close to eight hours each way, with no overnight waypoint needed.
How much does the tour cost?
This 5-day full-moon desert trip costs about Rs.109,746 to Rs.118,526 per couple at the Premium tier, or Rs.54,873 to Rs.59,263 per person. Luxury is Rs.154,476 to Rs.166,834 per couple and Ultra-Luxury Rs.225,036 to Rs.243,039. Figures are indicative.
