About

Planning for a spiritual journey with the Chardham Yatra package from Kolkata. This sacred pilgrimage takes you to four revered Hindu shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Each destination holds deep spiritual significance and offers a unique experience.

This package is designed to cater to the needs of pilgrims from Kolkata, Howrah, West Bengal. It includes everything from transportation to accommodation, ensuring a hassle-free journey.

There's a particular kind of longing that Bengalis carry for the Himalayas. Maybe it's the proximity — the mountains feel like they're just over the horizon from Kolkata, even if 1,500 kilometres separate you. Maybe it's generations of family stories — of grandfathers who did the yatra on foot, of grandmothers who kept a framed photograph of Badrinath on the puja wall. Whatever it is, the call of Chardham for Kolkata pilgrims is not casual. It is deep, personal, and often long overdue.

At BizareXpedition, we've walked this journey with hundreds of families from West Bengal — from the lanes of Ballygunge to the bylanes of Barasat — and we understand what this pilgrimage means to you. It is not a holiday. It is a homecoming.

Our কলকাতা থেকে চারধাম যাত্রা প্যাকেজ (Char dham yatra package from Kolkata) is designed around that understanding — not just logistics, but devotion. Not just transportation, but transformation.

This page covers everything you need to know: costs, itinerary, trek details, pony and helicopter charges, travel options, documents, and what to pack. Read it once, share it with your family, and reach out when you're ready.

  • Accommodation ranges from standard to deluxe depending on package tier.

  • Clean, warm, vegetarian-friendly properties selected with South and East Indian pilgrims in mind.

Trek Distance: Yamunotri and Kedarnath

The two treks on this yatra are the most physically demanding parts of the char dham yatra from Kolkata. Here is what you genuinely need to know:

Yamunotri Trek

  • Distance: 6 km one way (12 km return)

  • Starting Point: Janki Chatti

  • Altitude: 3,293 metres above sea level

  • Difficulty: Moderate

  • Time Required: 2.5 to 4 hours one way depending on your pace

The trail is narrow, rocky in places, and runs alongside a mountain stream. It is genuinely beautiful — pine trees, wild flowers in season, and the sound of the river below. Most pilgrims in reasonable health manage it comfortably. The path has been improved in recent years, but it is still a mountain trail — not a park walk.

There are tea stalls and rest points along the route. Take rest breaks without embarrassment. The mountain is not going anywhere.

Kedarnath Trek

  • Distance: 18 km return (9 km each way from Gaurikund)

  • Starting Point: Gaurikund

  • Altitude: 3,583 metres at the temple

  • Elevation Gain: Approximately 1,600 metres

  • Difficulty: Challenging

  • Time Required: 5 to 7 hours uphill; 4 to 5 hours descent

This is the one that demands respect. The trail passes through dense rhododendron forests, crosses glacial streams, and climbs steadily and relentlessly. On a clear day, the views are extraordinary. On a cloudy day, it feels like you're walking through clouds — which you are.

If you have any doubt about completing this trek — due to age, health, or fitness — please consider the helicopter. It is not taking a shortcut. It is being wise.

Best time to start: 4:00 - 5:00 AM. Beat the crowds, get the cooler morning air, and arrive at Kedarnath in time for midday darshan. Starting after 10 AM means heat, crowds, and slower movement on a narrow trail.

Pony, Palki, and Pitthoo Charges

At both Yamunotri and Kedarnath, local service providers offer carrying options for pilgrims who cannot or prefer not to trek on foot. These are regulated by the local authorities and priced seasonally.

₹5,000 – ₹6,500

Pitthoo (Back Carrier)

Dandi / Palki (Palanquin)

₹7,000 – ₹10,000

₹12,000 – ₹16,000

Kedarnath (Gaurikund to Kedarnath, 9 km)

Prices are approximate and fluctuate with season, demand, and government revision. Always confirm rates on-site.

A word from experience: Book your pony or palki the evening before at Janki Chatti or Sonprayag. Morning queues for these services are long, especially during peak season. Planning ahead saves hours of frustration.

Helicopter Ticket Charges for Chardham Yatra

For pilgrims who are elderly, have health conditions, or simply want to complete the yatra comfortably without the long treks, helicopter services are available at Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is a significant cost but absolutely worth it for those who need it.

Important notes on helicopter booking

  • Helicopter seats fill up months in advance for May and June. If helicopter yatra is part of your plan, book at least 3 to 4 months ahead.

  • Flights are subject to weather cancellation. Always have a backup plan (pony or trek).

  • Booking through authorised operators only. BizareXpedition coordinates helicopter bookings through UCADA-approved providers.

  • For our full helicopter Chardham yatra package from Kolkata, contact us directly for a consolidated quote.

Best Time to do Chardham Yatra from Kolkata

The temples are open only from late April / early May through November — and within that window, not all months are equal.

  • May to June (Peak Season) The temples are newly opened, the energy is electric, and everyone wants to be there. Which means — everyone is there. Queues at Kedarnath can stretch for hours. Flights from Kolkata book out. Hotels fill up weeks in advance. If you choose this window, book early and prepare for crowds.

That said — there is something magnificent about being part of that collective pilgrimage surge. The shared devotion of thousands of people climbing towards Kedarnath in the morning mist is a sight unlike anything else in India.

  • July to August (Monsoon Season) The temples remain open but travel is genuinely difficult. Landslides are common on the mountain roads. This window is best avoided unless you are very experienced with Himalayan travel and flexible with your dates.

  • September to October (The Hidden Gem) This is the window experienced pilgrims quietly prefer, and rarely advertise. The monsoon has ended. The skies are impossibly clear. The mountains appear in their full, unapologetic glory — snow on the peaks, green on the slopes, waterfalls everywhere. Crowds are significantly thinner. The air is cold but clean, and the darshan at each temple feels more intimate, more personal.

  • For pilgrims from Kolkata who can be flexible, September to mid-October is our sincere recommendation. It requires good warm clothing and slightly more physical preparation for the cold nights — but the reward is a yatra that feels unhurried and truly sacred.

How to Reach Chardham Yatra from Kolkata

Kolkata to the Himalayas — there are a few ways, and each has its own character.

By Air (Fastest and Most Recommended)

Route: Kolkata (CCU) → Dehradun (DED) — Jolly Grant Airport

Direct flights operate seasonally. Connecting flights via Delhi (DEL) are available year-round.

  • Kolkata → Dehradun (direct, seasonal) - IndiGo, Air India(1.5 - 2 hours)

  • Kolkata → Delhi → Dehradun - IndiGo, Air India, Vistara(4 – 5 hours total)

From Dehradun airport, Haridwar is about 1.5 to 2 hours by road — our team picks you up directly.

Book flights 3 to 4 months in advance for the May season. Prices rise sharply closer to the date.

By Train (Comfortable, Scenic, and Budget-Friendly)

For pilgrims who prefer the journey to be part of the experience — and many Bengalis do — the train from Kolkata to Haridwar is a beautiful option.

  • Dehradun Express (13009) - Howrah to Haridwar  (22 Hours)

  • Upasana Express (19307) - Howrah to Haridwar  (24 Hours)

  • Yoga Express (19031) - Kolkata to Haridwar  (26 Hours)

Booking class recommendation: Book at least 60 to 90 days in advance through IRCTC — these trains fill up with pilgrims during the yatra season. From Haridwar station, our representative collects your group and the yatra begins properly.

Documents Required for Chardham Yatra

This is not a list to glance over and forget. Carry every one of these and keep copies in your bag, your phone, and with someone back home.

  • Government-issued photo ID — Aadhaar card, Voter ID, or Passport (original + photocopy)

  • Yatra Registration Number (online registration through the Uttarakhand tourism portal — mandatory since 2022, no entry without it)

  • Passport-size photographs (carry at least 6)

  • Photo ID (same as above)

  • Medical fitness certificate from a registered doctor

  • Emergency contact details on paper — not just saved in your phone

  • Valid Indian Passport

  • Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card if applicable

Things to Carry for Chardham Yatra from Kolkata

Pack for the mountain, not for a hotel. Everything on this list has earned its place through the experience of pilgrims who came before you.

  • Thermal inners — top and bottom, at least 2 sets

  • Heavy woolen sweater or fleece jacket (not just a thin cardigan)

  • Waterproof outer jacket — sudden rain is not occasional, it is routine

  • Full-length trek pants — avoid jeans (heavy, uncomfortable when wet)

  • Woolen socks — at least 3 pairs

  • Gloves and a muffler or neck warmer

  • Cap that covers the ears

  • Proper trekking shoes with ankle support — this is the single most important item on this list

  • A pair of light sandals for temple premises

Trek Essentials

  • Trekking stick (available to rent at base camps — bring one if you have it)

  • Daypack / small rucksack for trek days

  • Water bottle — at least 1 litre capacity; refill from clean sources on the trail

  • Energy snacks — trail mix, glucose biscuits, dates, chocolate

  • Glucose powder sachets

Practical Items

  • Headlamp / torch with spare batteries (5 AM temple starts in the dark are real)

  • Power bank — a large one; charging points are scarce at high altitude

  • Small cash in cash (ATMs are unreliable beyond Haridwar)

  • Polybag / zip-lock bags to protect documents and electronics from rain

  • Personal prayer items — mala, small idol, incense if desired

Why Choose BizareXpedition

  • We know what Kolkata pilgrims need. Bengali families have specific expectations around food, prayer time, group dynamics, and how the yatra should feel. Our tour managers understand this. Your satvik meals will feel like real food. Your darshan time will not be rushed. Your elderly parents will be looked after the way you would look after them.

  • Our pricing has no surprises. Every cost is disclosed before you book. If something is not included, we tell you clearly. There is no moment on the mountain where you discover an unexpected charge. That is a promise we make in writing.

  • Our ground team lives in Uttarakhand. Not a helpline in a distant city. Real people, on the ground, during your entire yatra. When weather disrupts plans — and weather will always disrupt something in the mountains — our team responds within minutes, not hours.

  • We have done this for years, specifically with East Indian and South Indian pilgrims. We know the journey from Kolkata. We know Howrah station. We know which trains are reliable and which flights consistently get delayed. We know the difference between what the brochure says and what the mountain actually offers.

  • We treat this as a pilgrimage, not a product. Our itinerary is built around adequate darshan time. Early morning temple access. Puja arrangements that are meaningful, not tokenistic. You are not being moved through a checklist. You are undertaking something sacred.

  • Hundreds of families from West Bengal — Kolkata, Siliguri, Asansol, Durgapur, Burdwan — have trusted us with their Chardham yatra. Their testimonials, their photographs, their referrals to friends and family members — that is the only endorsement we truly rely on.

If you've read this far, the yatra is already calling you. Don't wait for the perfect moment. The mountains will be there in 2026. The only question is whether you will be.

Contact BizareXpedition today. Let's plan your char dham yatra from Kolkata together.
