The wait is finally over. Devotees of Lord Badrinarayan can now receive the blessings in 2024 on May 12th. Every year, the opening date of Badrinath Dham is ceremoniously announced on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami by the Badrinath Dham temple committee, meticulously calculated according to Vedic traditions and nakshatra placements. This year, the doors of Badrinath temple will open on May 12th, a Sunday, at 6:00 AM, amidst the melodious chanting of Vedic mantras and hymns.

In winters, the Badrinath Dham is inaccessible because of high snowfall and has extremely harsh winters. That’s why the doors or Kapaat of Badrinath Dham open only for six to 7 months in a year. As like the opening date, the closing date of the shrine is also decided on the day of Vijayadashami (Dussehra). Most likely the temple closes after BhaiDuj but the exact date is declared by the temple committee on Dussehra morning.
