About

This is a private, 6-night honeymoon in Sikkim, a small Himalayan state in North East India. You spend three nights in Gangtok and three in Pelling, visit the glacial Tsomgo Lake and some of Sikkim’s oldest monasteries, and wake up to Kangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain. Permits, a private car, guides and honeymoon extras are included. Prices start from about INR 162,666 per couple.

Most couples who look at a North East India honeymoon want two things: mountains that feel far from everything, and a trip that doesn’t wear them out. Sikkim does both well. It is green, calm and easy to get around, and the hotels in Gangtok and Pelling are some of the best in the eastern Himalaya.

This north east Sikkim honeymoon package for couples keeps the pace slow on purpose. You unpack only twice. There is one early morning start, no trekking, and free time most afternoons. We take care of the paperwork that foreign visitors need for Sikkim, so the only thing you have to plan is what to do with your evenings.

Why Sikkim works so well for a honeymoon

Sikkim is one of India’s eight north-eastern states. It sits between Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, and it feels quite different from the rest of India: quieter roads, Buddhist monasteries on the hillsides, prayer flags on every bridge, and food that leans towards Tibet and Nepal. It is also known as one of the cleanest and calmest states in the country.

For couples, that calm is the whole point. Days here are about long views, slow breakfasts and short outings rather than ticking off sights. A Gangtok and Pelling romantic getaway for foreigners gives you two very different moods in one week:

  • Gangtok is the lively capital. Cafés, a car-free main street, monasteries close to town and the day trip to Tsomgo Lake.

  • Pelling is a quiet ridge village in West Sikkim. It faces the Kangchenjunga range across a deep valley, and on clear mornings the peaks turn pink at sunrise, often right outside your window.

Sikkim Luxury Honeymoon Gangtok or Pelling

What you’ll experience

Hills: Kangchenjunga at sunrise

Kangchenjunga (8,586 m) is the highest mountain in India and the third highest on Earth. Pelling has some of the best views of it anywhere in Sikkim. We ask for mountain-facing rooms at every hotel tier, so on a clear morning you can watch the light arrive without leaving bed.

Lakes: Tsomgo and Khecheopalri

  • Tsomgo Lake (also spelled Changu Lake) sits at about 3,750 m on the old trade route to Tibet. It is ringed by steep slopes and often frozen in winter.

  • Khecheopalri Lake near Pelling is sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus. Locals say the birds keep its surface free of leaves. It is a short, peaceful walk through prayer flags.

Monasteries: living Buddhist culture

  • Rumtek Monastery, seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage, where you may hear the monks chanting in the morning.

  • Pemayangtse Monastery, founded in 1705 and one of the oldest in Sikkim.

  • Buddha Park at Ravangla, with its 130-foot Buddha statue facing the mountains.

  • Do Drul Chorten in Gangtok, with its 108 prayer wheels.

You’ll also ride the Gangtok ropeway, walk the forest path to the old royal ruins at Rabdentse, and step out onto the glass skywalk beside the giant Chenrezig statue in Pelling.

Permits and visas for foreign travellers

Foreign nationals need a free Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter Sikkim, and a separate permit to visit Tsomgo Lake. We handle both for you. Here’s how it works:

  • Get your Indian visa (most nationalities can apply for an e-Visa online).

  • Send us clear copies of both passports and visas at least two weeks before you travel.

  • We arrange your Sikkim permit and Tsomgo Lake permit before you arrive.

  • Carry your original passports. They are checked at Rangpo when you enter Sikkim.

Tsomgo Lake permits are only issued to foreigners travelling as at least two people together, so a couple qualifies. Nathu La, the pass on the China border beyond the lake, is closed to foreign nationals.

Is this trip right for you?

You’ll love it if you…

  • Want quiet mountain days, not a packed checklist

  • Enjoy culture, monasteries and local food

  • Prefer good hotels and your own car over group tours

  • Like the idea of free afternoons together

It may not suit you if you…

  • Get badly car-sick: three days have 4 to 6 hours on winding hill roads

  • Want serious trekking or adventure sports

  • Can only travel between June and September

PRACTICAL NOTES

  • Permits. Sikkim needs a free Restricted Area Permit. Tsomgo Lake needs a separate permit for at least two foreign nationals. Send passport and visa copies at least two weeks before travel.

  • Altitude. Tsomgo Lake is at about 3,750 metres. Gangtok and Pelling are at a comfortable 1,650 to 2,150 metres.

  • Road days. Days 1, 4 and 7 have 4 to 6 hours of driving on winding hill roads. Bring motion-sickness tablets if you need them.

  • Mountain views. Kangchenjunga is clearest early in the morning, and clouds can hide it on any day.

  • Plastic. Sikkim restricts single-use plastic and packaged water bottles in some areas. Carry a refillable bottle.

  • Dress. Warm layers for evenings and Tsomgo in any season; modest clothes in monasteries.

  • Photography. No photos inside many prayer halls. Do not photograph army installations on the Tsomgo road.

  • Connectivity. Mobile data works in Gangtok and Pelling; signal is weak on the Tsomgo road.

  • Celebrations. Tell us your wedding date or any special occasion, and we will add a small surprise.

  • Tipping. Appreciated but not required. Most couples tip the driver and guides at the end of the trip
